Artist's Comments

In the cold, rainy day he has to go.
Her life is empty all of a sudden that only his presence could bring back the melody in heart and soul. A melody not easily brought back by any letters and things.

At his departure, she stares lovingly at him, wishing he would come back to fill her emptiness again so she could play the violin for him.

the glow thing mean the rain damps the hair. meaning she is affected by the hair

those papers aren't music sheets they are love letters

I think this is my first 100% time really manipulation photos not using the overlay thingies of layers XD

Hope you like it ^^

Critiques

:iconthefantasim:
I tend to not like single figures in a large background because here at dA they've become cliche, but I must admit that it works in this deviation because the figure is actually more engaged. Meaning, the violin (?) and bow adds meaning to her presense.

Overall it is a good deviation, but I see some problem areas. I agree with the other critic that the rain looks wonderful but she is not being affected by the rain. It's like she has an invisible bubble around her protecting her from the rain.

Also, I don't understand the glow around the top and right side of her hair and over the "music sheets" (?) that are beind her. Why is it there?

And though I like the violin and bow, the music sheets implies that she was playing on the rocks, or did she just drop them? I'm not sure and truthfully I don't think the music sheets were needed.

So I like the concept of this deviation and the basic technique, I'm just unsure about some of the details.

I must say, you've photoshopped the waves into the ocean very convincingly. I didn't even realize they were two separate waterscapes until I looked at the stock images used.

What I'm not too happy with is the rain. It's very obvious at a glance that it's a photoshop brush. But more importantly, it looks odd that the rain is hitting the girl's head and arm, and the dropped papers, so hard that it's producing a thick mist, yet the rest of her body, clothes, and the rocks don't get that treatment. I'd drastically reduce the mist there, since it really doesn't look natural.

Good work. I love seeing other pictures with stock that I've used! (I used the rocks that she's standing on, its the featured deviation on my page)

Nice work!

This is the forest primeval. The murmuring pines and the hemlocks,
Bearded with moss, and in garments green, indistinct in the twilight,
Stand like Druids of eld, with voices sad and prophetic.
